Sleeping in the highchair and BEST banana bread

This morning we had my cousin over and her 5 week old baby boy. She lives about an hour away and we don't get together much but, I think we are going on work on changing that! We had such a great time and it was so nice to see her.

Judah was actually way more interested in her little baby than I thought he would be. He wanted to touch his face, he was interested in his feet and he wanted to play with his little car seat. It was fun to see that he actually is interested in babies. When we have our little baby, he is most likely going to be all over the baby and I'll have to constantly tell him to be gentle.

I made some banana bread for our visit this morning and I used a new recipe. I must say, I think this is the best recipe ever. It was so stink'n good. I say "was" because it is almost completely gone. I haven't had lunch, I've just been eating banana bread all morning.
Anyway, it was easy, it's delicious and the recipe is here. It says to let it bake 55-60 mintues but, mine was done at about 48 minutes. Also, I put a little more salt in it than it calls for. I think the sweetness of the banana and a little salty flavor is so good! Not healthy though......

After they left, I put Judah in his highchair and I was giving him pieces of a sandwich while chatting on the phone with Sally. I looked over and he had fallen asleep in his highchair. It was too cute to not take a picture of. It's just a cell phone picture but, so funny!

The Kids Menu

Tonight we headed out to dinner as a family. We don't really go out to dinner very often as the 3 of us but, it sounded fun to me and IHOP sounded delicious. It's a very family friendly atmosphere and I hoped that Judah would like being out at a restaurant with us.

When the waiter came to take our order, Judah started saying "please" again and again. Every time it got a little louder. He was just trying to let the waiter know that he's hungry. That's what I have him tell me when we are home and he wants more food.

I ordered him a pancake with bananas and strawberries on it from the Kids Menu. It was really fun to get him something from the menu because we haven't done that yet. Last time we all went out, he was still eating baby food. His pancake also came with yogurt and he LOVES yogurt so, that was a hit.

Jeremiah and I had their normal breakfasts. You know, the ones with a couple pancakes, eggs, and sausage. It was nice to not cook tonight or do dishes after dinner.

Just a day, just an ordinary day

I don't have anything particularly exciting to write about but, I'll write anyway. Today was just a pretty ordinary day. I started the day feeling tired and queasy. Ever task that was on my list felt like it was going to be so hard to accomplish. It was just one of those times were everything felt very overwhelming. I didn't have a huge list either. It was actually very manageable!
-Go to Stanwood, get groceries.
-Fold the white laundry that was washed yesterday and put the piles in the appropriate room.
-Make the black bean recipe that Sally emailed me.
-Send thank you card to J.
-Hang the family picture from church on the wall.
-Make husband's lunch.

I think those were the only things on my list. Anyway, we headed to town and got our stuff done. Judah has a runny nose and is fighting a bug but, he was in a good mood all day. When we came home, I got some good music going and then conquered my list while he was napping. As the afternoon progressed, everything began to seem a little less overwhelming and I finished off my list.

The black bean recipe turned out awesome. We had them for dinner in whole wheat tortillas with sour cream on top and it was so good. The recipe is here.

Judah has been loving his bear lately so, I took a couple of pictures of him with it. I've actually been putting it in his crib at night and when I go check on him before I go to bed, he's usually sleeping with it under his arm. He loves that bear!

Today in review

This morning we went to MOPS and it was especially good. It's always fun but, today I enjoyed it even more than normal. Our Mentor Mom Coordinator did an excellent devotion. She shared a few verses that all included the word "plans". A couple of the verses were:

Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

Jeremiah 29:11For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

She passed out pieces of paper for us to write down a list of things we want to work on. Then we had some time to pray and think over our list and see if there was a specific thing on their that God was wanting us to really work on. A few of the things I wrote down were:
•Get up and spend time with my husband before he goes to work.
•Walk daily or get some sort of exercise.
•Pray more.

After praying over my list, it was obvious to me that God wants me to work on getting up with my husband and spending a few moments with him before he goes to work. I got up early today to make french toast to bring to MOPS and I was up with him. He called me later and said that it made him start his day in a great mood because we were able to spend a little time together this morning. So, it's obvious to me that's something that should become a priority in my life.

Later during MOPS, our children's pastor came and spoke. She shared about how Jesus interacts with women in the Bible and how women are just as important to Him as men are. She gave us the opportunity to read the story of Jesus and the women at the well in John 4. We read the story and then we discussed it.

What I loved is that it felt like we really studied scripture. I love looking at verses in the Bible and then really discussing and dissecting them with other people. I understand it so much better that way. Even though I grew up in church, I fell like I have so much to learn. I'm thankful to have some awesome people in my life that I can learn with!

10 weeks and this weekend

Today I'm ten weeks along in our pregnancy. Well, give or take a day or so. Babies really choose their due dates, not us. For now, I'm going with Oct. 17th though so, that makes me 10 weeks today. 10 weeks means that I'm a little closer to the lovely 2nd trimester. The wonderful stage where the delicious food I eat will actually stay in my stomach! I hate to sound like I'm complaining but, I really am getting tired of throwing up.

10 weeks also means that I'm closer to the wonderful time when I'll get to feel this sweet little baby moving around. With Judah, I felt him kick for the 1st time at 16 weeks, 4 days. We were in Mexico watching a show at our hotel and while the actors were singing and dancing, I felt a little piece of popcorn go off in the stomach. To this day, he LOVES music and he loves dancing so, that's a very special memory.

Now, to change this subject....
This weekend has been really good! Yesterday morning I worked the MOPS consignment sale and that was really fun. Afterwards, I headed to Home Depot (a store I love) and loaded up on bags of bark and weed killer. When I got home, Jeremiah had Judah down for his nap so, we headed outside. He sprayed all of our driveway and rocks and I weeded our rose bed. After he was done spraying, he helped me spread bark on the rose bed and it looks so good! All the weeds are gone and we spread bark thick enough that it should really help keep more from coming up. I love working outside with my husband. My A-type personality really likes getting stuff done and it's even better when we can get stuff done together.

After our yard work, we all headed to the store and got some stuff to BBQ and then just hung out until bedtime. This morning we had church and it was my week in the nursery. I thought Judah would be super happy in there because I was with him but, I was wrong. He was such a grumpy pants. I'm not sure what the deal was! We grocery shopped after church and then came home, did lunch, put Judah down for a nap. I started some laundry and then I took a nap also. When he woke up, we all went for a walk before dinner.

It was a good weekend. Perfect balance of getting stuff done and also relaxing. I hope everyone else had a good weekend too!

The first thing Judah stole

Tuesday afternoon I had an appointment and I had Judah with me. The boy doesn't like to hold still for 5 seconds so, I let him sit on the floor and play with my purse. I don't have anything dangerous or embarrassing in there so, I didn't think anything of it.

Well, yesterday when we got home from the store, I found this in my purse......

This is the door stopper from the office where we were. Gross I know and it's definitely NOT ours. It cracked me up that he put it in there and that we left with it. If he was a little older, I would definitely take him back there and help him return it. I guess I'm going to have to watch him a little closer in the future. Hopefully he won't get into a habit of taking things home that do not belong to him. We can't have that!

In other news, I can finally rejoice out loud that my sister is expecting again! I've known for a week. I actually found out in the car while we were driving to my ultrasound together last Thursday. I am so sticking excited for her!!! Last time, we were due 5 weeks apart. This time, we are due 4 weeks apart. Neither time, we really tried to be pregnant at the same time! God has given us the most amazing blessing of being able to grow our families together.

Best Sandwich and 2nd ultrasound!

Today I got to go see our baby again and I brought Sally and Judah along with me! We had so much fun. Sally has got to be the best auntie ever. She even clipped his finger nails while we were waiting for the ultrasound and that's not such an easy thing to do for a 1 year old. The baby looks great! Baby is measuring about 9 weeks along, right on schedule and the blood clot in my uterus looked like it's almost gone! Praise the Lord! The doctor said that I don't have any unusual restrictions now. I can exercise and do whatever. It's so nice to not feel like I really need to take it easy! In two weeks the baby changed so much, growing life is such a miracle!

Switching gears......

After I put Judah down for his afternoon nap, I made the best sandwich ever. Well, to me it's the best. I've been making these all the time lately. First you toast some yummy, healthy bread. Then you put mayo, pepper and a touch of seasoning salt on the bread. Next you put slices of avocado, tomato and lettuce on the bread. If you have turkey, that's yummy and healthy to add as well. I just had veggies on mine today and it was perfect. I know this sound simple and it is but, it just hits the spot lately.

Graham crackers and people that make bad choices

Oh yeah. It's nap time and I'm sitting down with some milk chocolate covered Grahams from Starbucks. Today Judah and I went and ran errands and while at Haggen, I decided I should buy a package of the Via instant coffee from Starbucks, decaf of course. Well, if you bought a package, you also were entered into a super cute giveaway and you got a free package of these chocolate covered graham crackers. Score! I wanted to eat them in the car on the way home but, I decided to have self control and munch on them while Judah was napping. Plus, if I ate them in the car, I would've been hearing "Maawwwrrr" coming from the back seat . That translates to MORE and that's what Judah says if he'd like to eat whatever it is that we are eating. I would've had to share and that would just be silly!

While we were in town, I saw a car that had a small child riding on the lap of the person in the passenger seat. It was so ridiculous. They had a car seat in the back but, the child was riding in the front on a lap. I was driving behind them and I called 911 to report what was going on. I gave the operator the license plate number, the car description and where we were located. She said that she would notify an officer. Well, I followed them for about 15 minutes, just waiting for them to get pulled over but, I stopped following when they got on the freeway. An officer never came! It was so frustrating to me and it still bothers me. The child was probably about Judah's age and if they were to get in an accident, the child would most likely die. Since they had a car seat in the back, I'm guessing that the child just didn't want to ride in the seat and so the adult let them ride up front. I don't care if my kids screamed the entire car ride every single time, I would never let them ride up front on somebody's lap. It's just not worth it.

I guess that's just one of those situations where you can do the right thing and then you need to let it go. I'm not very good about letting things go but, writing them down helps me. Well, my graham crackers are gone and I need to go outside and clean up after the dogs. Not my favorite chore but, at least the sun is shining!

Walk outside

This afternoon, Judah and I went for a good walk outside. Fresh air is so wonderful and I brought my camera along so that I could take a few pictures. We've been trying to go outside everday, as long as it's not raining.

Here's my adorable boy wearing my sunglasses. Of course he wouldn't keep them on but, it was cute for a picture!

Ok, well I'm off to go watch the 1hr "Office" with my hubby. I'm so excited that it's an hour tonight!
