Homemade Granola

Granola is one of those things that I love and although, I've always known it was easy to make, I've never made it. Today, I spontaneously decided to make some with ingredients that we already had. Yesterday we did our big monthly grocery shopping and if I would've known I was going to make granola, I would've bought some ingredients that would've made it even yummier. Woulda, coulda, shoulda....oh well!

Here's what I put in my granola:
Dry Ingredients
3 c. Old fashioned Oatmeal
1/2 c. wheat bran
1/3 c. flax seed meal
1/2 c. sunflower seeds
1 c. chopped almonds

Wet Ingredients/flavor
1/2 c. oil
1 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tsp.cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. honey
1/2 tsp. salt
1/3 c. peanut butter

Preheat oven at 350. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl.
Mix wet ingredients in a bowl.

Mix dry and wet ingredients together and then spread evenly on a non-greased cookie sheet.

Bake for about 15 minutes, making sure not to burn. Burnt granola is not good granola!
After the granola is baked, let it cool and then add any type of dried fruit that sounds good to you. Just put the granola back in the bowl, add the dried fruit and stir it up. Pour it all into a jar or other container and you are done! I like to save my glass pickle jars and re-use them for things like this.
A few things I like about making granola:
•There isn't a "right" way. Basically you can use any ingredients that sound good to you.
•It doesn't dirty a lot of dishes. I think I used 2 bowls, one measuring cup, a tablespoon and a wooden spoon.
•It's fast.
•You can make it as healthy (or unhealthy) as you want.

  4. I had no idea it was so easy to make granola. I overheard ladies talking about granola at MOPS. I think you might have been one of them :)
