Judah's Special Day

For the last month or so, we've been on the go non-stop. When I go in to get Judah in the morning and the first thing he says to me is "Mommy, where are we going?", I know we need to slow down. Even though we've been too busy lately, we still decided to head out to see Cars 2 this morning. We dropped Paisley off at Auntie Sally's house then Judah and I headed out on our special date. I wanted Judah to have a morning with me that was all about him. I wanted it to be all about us just spending time together with no agenda.

On our way to the movie theatre, we played the music loudly. We sang, we danced and it was fun. We stopped at the grocery store to buy some M&M's for his first theatre experience because, I'm cheap and I don't want to pay $4 for the candy at the theatre.

When we got to the theatre and walked in, it was dark and loud. Judah didn't like it at all and he kept on asking to go back to the car. We walked out of the theatre and walked around for awhile talking about it. I could tell that he really didn't want to go back in there so, we gave the ticket I bought to someone that was standing outside and we headed into the arcade to "drive" some cars.

Judah totally loved driving the cars with me in the arcade. It didn't matter that we weren't in the theatre watching the movie. It was his special day and it was about him being comfortable and having fun. Besides, he's just 2. He'll want to go watch a movie in the theatre soon enough.

After we drove the cars for awhile, we headed to Petco to go look at the animals. We looked at fish......
We looked at lots of birds.......
It's a good thing that the birds are in cages that two year olds can't open.......
We even looked at snakes. Most of you know how I feel about snakes so, I'm sure you're very proud of me!
After Petco, we went into Costco and we ate pizza together. We didn't do any shopping, we just had our special date. I'm so thankful that I was able to spend the morning with my boy, while Paisley spent time with her Auntie and cousins. When we were leaving the movie theatre, I saw a mom-friend of mine that has 4 children. She said "it's all about being flexible" and boy is she right. Sometimes we need to throw our plans out the window and go with "Plan B".

  2. You're a good mom. Flexibility is the name of the game. Seriously. Just one year older (3) and Gracie just LOVED it. Next time it might be less scary if he's in there when the house lights are one first. They were really good about dimming the lights gradually. During the previews the lights were dimmed but it wasn't dark yet. I don't know at what point you came in. But you did the right thing by not forcing him to do something that wasn't fun for him.

Yeah for you being willing to look at the snakes at the pet store. I would NOT!!!
