When the opportunity arose to write a blog post about my squirmy baby and the challenge of changing her diaper, I had to jump on it. My little Paisley Rae has been a wiggly baby from the first day that I could feel her move in my tummy. The girl never holds still and that includes during her diaper changes. I often say that Paisley has ants in her pants because she’s always on the move and even in my arms, she’s wiggling non-stop.
When I was pregnant with Judah, I decorated the wall beside his changing table with some cute Noah’s Ark decals. Judah always enjoyed looking at them while I changed his diaper so, when I was pregnant with Paisley, I figured I would decorate the wall beside her changing table as well. I decorated it with cute flower and lady bug decals. I even hung huge tissue paper pom-poms above her changing table. Surely she would love to look at them and she would smile and hold perfectly still during her diaper changes. How wrong I was! Paisley Rae is happy but, she doesn’t look at those pretty decorations that I did for her, she’s too busy trying to roll over on the changing table! If you’re a mom, you know that it can get a little frustrating to try and secure a diaper on your busy baby while also keeping them safe from rolling off the changing table.
It’s actually funny to be writing on this topic because just today, my sister was at our house dealing with this very same thing. She was changing her son in Paisley’s room and I went in there to grab something. I noticed that Levi had completely flipped onto his tummy and he was up on his hands and knees in a crawling position. Being the good sport that my sister is, she was putting his diaper on him while he was trying to crawl away.
It’s funny how being a mom forces you to get creative in all sorts of different situations. I have an assortment of toys for Paisley to hold while I change her and sometimes those help her hold still. It also helps to sing her songs or make funny faces. Like many situations in mothering, sometimes my attempts to distract her work, other times they don’t.
Here’s the good news, Huggies is coming out with a new product called Little Movers Slip on Diapers. These diapers will simply slip on even the squirmiest of sweet babies. Changing time will be much quicker and no longer will there be the battle with the busy baby at changing time. Thank you Huggies for thinking of all the busy mommy's and our sweet and squirmy babies.
