Pumpkin Spice Protein Shake (One of my latest loves)

With this pregnancy, my food cravings and food aversions have been all over the place! For example, the other night I had something healthy, simple and yummy planned for dinner but then, I saw a picture The Pioneer Woman posted on Instagram of her homemade Macaroni and Cheese. It was all over after that. I even posted about it on Facebook because when you're pregnant, you do ridiculous things like post about food on Facebook, far more often than you probably should.

Long story short, my family didn't eat until almost 7pm that night but, you better believe it....we had that homemade Macaroni and Cheese and it hit the spot.

Another thing that I've been loving is canned pumpkin and thankfully, it's much healthier than the Homemade Macaroni and Cheese craving that I had the other night.

In just 1/2 cup of pureed pumpkin you can find:
•Only 40 calories
•Less than 1 gram of fat
•5 grams of fiber
•Only 4 grams of sugar
•2 grams of protein
•A HUGE amount of Vitamin A {300%!}

If you ask me, I think those are some great reasons why we should be eating pumpkin, pumpkin and more pumpkin! Today I'm sharing a recipe with you for a Pumpkin Spice Protein Shake. This shake is a complete meal and it'll keep you full for hours.

Here's what you need:
•1 cup milk
•1/2 cup pumpkin puree
•1 scoop vanilla protein powder
•3/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
•2 tablespoons brown sugar (or other sweetener)
•A handful of ice cubes
•A sprinkle of nutmeg for the garnish

Mix all ingredients in a blender until well combined. Garnish with nutmeg and enjoy!

  1. Looks delicious. How about we add 1 giant scoop homemade vanilla ice cream to the recipe? Yum! :)

    1. You could add the ice cream but, that would kind of take away the whole "healthy" point of it..... :) I'm sure it'd be delicious though!

    2. Adding sugar takes away the whole "healthy" point of it...

    3. Replace the brown sugar with a couple small packets of Truvia and you have a solid shake.

  2. This is brilliant! I will try this for sure and let you know how it goes! Found you via Shine on Fridays, now following :)

P.S. I'm having a little hop this weekend too if you'd like to join ^

  3. Can't wait to try this! Careful on the vitamin A while preggers, though :)

  4. I'm addicted to my strawberry/blueberry protein shake with plain yogurt. This sounds so good. Definitely will add yogurt. Thanks for the recipe!

  5. This looks/sounds/smells so good! I cant wait to try it! Im pinning it.. and sharing on my facebook :D

    1. Hi Kelley! :) Hope you like it-I sure do! :)

  6. My dr told me to stay away from protein powder while pregnant ......what do you suggest in it's place?

    1. Vanilla yogurt would probably be a great substitute.

  7. I made it but instead of vanilla protein powder i put vanilla pudding powder. It was realy good

  8. I make a similar one but use almond milk, vanilla yogurt, and add a big handful of raw spinach. (No brown sugar.) You can't taste the spinach and it makes it even healthier.

  9. That looks amazing! Loving anything pumpkin right now!

  10. you won't believe me, but this year has been the first year I have ever tried the pumpkin spice latter at Starbucks...i first got a taste of a free sample and then my friend showed me a 'lighter' version....and I was hooked !
