With the recent news of the horrible tragedy in Connecticut, my heart has been been aching today. As a Mother, I can only imagine what the families that were affected by this must be feeling. It makes me head hurt and my eyes well up. All day, I've been grabbing my kids, hugging them until they squirm away and saying prayers for those sweet, innocent families.
Today, I'd planned on posting a fun little recipe that I made yesterday but, a recipe just doesn't seem like the right post for this moment. Instead, I want to take a few moments to highlight the stars in my life, encourage you to think of who your most treasured people are and then at the end of this post, I'm sharing a wonderful way for you to wrap up your Christmas shopping, while supporting a really special charity.
Another one of the people that I thank God for is my husband. He works so hard for us, every single day and his patience and love for our children is so sweet. My Mom is also one of those those that I'm thankful for this during this Christmas Season. She's shaped my view of Mothering and shown me how wonderful it is. She even made me excited to give birth (naturally!) and that's not something that many women get excited about!
If you're like me and you haven't quite finished your Christmas shopping, I want to share an easy way to get that shopping done, and partner with Macy's in supporting the people in Haiti.
The Macy's Heart of Haiti line features more than 40 home decor items including quilts, metalwork, jewelry and paintings -all made almost entirely from recycled and sustainable items such as old cement bags, cardboard, oil drums and local gommier wood.
When you purchase items from Macy’s Heart of Haiti , you're contributing to the Haitian community, which now in light of Hurricane Sandy, needs our help more than ever. To date the program has employed 780 artisans, which has improved the lives of over 6,200 individuals.
The Heart of Haiti initiative provides artists with an opportunity to make a living, feed their families and pay their children’s school fees. Macy’s Heart of Haiti upholds the belief that “trade not aid” is a powerful way to create sustainable work and much needed financial opportunities.
Macy’s Heart of Haiti line that inspired this post. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective, and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own. #CleverHaiti
Hug your loved ones extra tight tonight and remember to continue to pray for those hurting families.
