A Highland Games Weekend

This man. The guy I wanted to marry from day one, but dated for 5 years and then finally married. The guy I've been married to for almost 5 years now. Wow, 5 years sounds like such a short amount of time, doesn't it? With 3 kids, a home and a full life, it feels much longer.

When we were first dating, the Scottish Highland Games was a huge part of his life. He was GOOD at it, very good. First he competed as an amateur and after a few years of dominating the games, he turned professional.

While we dated, he traveled in Scotland, competing with some of the best in the world. Those days with him away felt like some of the longest of my life. For various reasons, he eventually stopped competing, transitioning into a more traditional career and the chapter of the Highland Games was slowly closed.

This weekend, we opened that chapter back up. But, this time with 3 kids in tow and a ring on my finger. We packed the stroller with snacks, slathered on sunscreen, wore our awesome t-shirts designed by our Pastor, who also happens to be a great friend and we showed up to support Daddy.

Judah could have sat and watched his Daddy compete all day. He clings to his every word and studies his every move. To him, Daddy is everything.

A few iPhone shots from the week.

The CD that I've had on repeat for the last few days. I just can't get enough of it.
Celebrating the completion of swim lessons with s'mores.
As I feed Eliza outside, Paisley decorates our legs with grass.
Country girl.
Kissy baby.
Walks around the yard after the kids are in bed.
Bouquets to leave on the table for my big kids.
Surprise flowers to wake up to.

This weekend, I learned that sometimes we think we know why a chapter is being opened back up again, but ultimately God is in control and His plan is so much bigger and better than ours. I'm learning that sometimes I just need to keep my mouth shut and let God work out HIS plan. Sometimes, we don't see it. We doubt and we try to control the situation. We think we know and we push for our way. We plan and we strive, only to become tired and defeated. Instead, we must be still and wait. He works all things together for good!

Wrapping this up, I just want to say that those of you who read my blog mean so much to me. You are so encouraging to me! My last post was definitely on the more serious/transparent side and each of your comments meant so much to me. I'm just a Mom who loves to listen to loud music and share her heart through writing.  In this little space, I've found such a sweet connection with you all. So, thank you.

  2. God's plan can be a funny thing sometimes, can't it? I love how sometimes He never fully closes a door!
