Snow Goose, How We Love You

So, there's this place that I'd skip dinner for. I'd eat protein and veggies all week long, just to stop there on a Saturday. I'd bribe my kids to be extra good, just so I could eat this ice cream. I know, I sound a bit desperate.

We've gone there every summer for as long as I can remember. We went there pre-kids. You know, back in the day when we went hiking every Saturday with our dog, who we thought was a kid. Wow, what I thought I knew. We went there when I was pregnant, maybe once, twice or 10 times. And our kids love it here, which is a good thing, since it's practically a requirement for being in our family. The homemade waffle cones are embarrassingly huge and the view is amazing, who can say no to that?

A few days ago, I got the word that they'd opened for the season, so this afternoon, we payed them our first visit of the summer. Don't let this sunshine fool you. It was 46 degrees outside. We gathered jackets for this ice cream trip because when you go to Snow Goose, you don't sit inside. No, you sit outside and enjoy the beautiful farm fields. I think that's why I love it so much. It's gorgeous out there!

On our way, Paisley fell asleep in the car. After a fun morning at church, a church potluck and lots of playing, she was exhausted. As soon as we pulled in, she quickly perked up.

Part of the deal with visiting Snowgoose is that while you stand in line, you contemplate what flavor you'll be ordering. You decide and then as the line moves, you sometimes change your mind. Today I decided on Lemon Meringue Pie, but when I ordered my scoop of Lemon Meringue, the sweet ice cream girl apologized and told me it was gone for the day. So, then I went with choice #2: Spumoni. I realize this isn't the most popular choice and since many people don't care for Spumoni, of course there's plenty for me.

Spumoni is actually a great conversation starter. Tonight, Jeremiah and I had a great time pondering what exactly Spumoni is and what exactly are those fruity-ish things in it. To be honest, I haven't a clue, but I love it and so, I had Spumoni and I'm sticking with this choice. It was dang good.

Paisley still gets her ice cream in a dish, for about 100 reasons. The top of which are: Well, because she's Paisley and she tends to fall about every 5 minutes and drop things. The dish is the safer choice for her. She's happy, her ice cream stays put and I'm happy that she isn't covered in pink ice cream.
Judah wanted Chocolate Peanut Butter, but they were out so, he went with Cookie Dough.
Farm fields. I think this is why I love this place. The ice cream is the icing on this cake.

Jeremiah got Salted Caramel and when he wasn't looking, I took 2 huge bites of it. Seriously. If he would have looked away more, I might have eaten it all.

Eliza ate crackers and sat there with us, happy as a clam, with one sock missing. This baby is so happy to be along for the ride. As I was about to fall asleep last night, I was thinking about her first Birthday, that's right around the corner. It turns me into a mess. She's just too perfect of a baby to get older. Okay, no more talking about that...sniff.

Hope you had a great weekend. I'll be eating bell peppers and eggs to make up for this.

  1. A little ice cream on a Sunday evening is just about perfect! And you look so beautiful. A little ice cream isn't going to hurt. Your photos just make me smile today!

  2. Thank you! I agree, a little ice cream never hurt. It's definitely fun. :) Have a great week!

  3. Ahhh...seriously making me miss the Valley right now...even if tulip traffic is about to hit! My dad sent me a text message today saying that he just sold the house that I grew up in that's less than a mile from Snow Goose, so your pics are bringing tears to my eyes. Or maybe it's the memory of burned fingers after rolling waffle cones for 8 hours. ;)

Thank you for your comments. I read every single one of them and they always make me smile.
